Interesting Moments...

Today M wanted to wear his 'basketball' shirt ( which is a sleeveless basketball jersey) to school without a tshirt underneath. First of all  - after a 15 min search it had to be taken out of the laundry. Secondly - It was 50 deg F outside! So Daddy said no - it was too cold - and made him wear a white undershirt with the basketball shirt over it . Everything was fine ...
Then it was time to go to school - M was no where to be found. When daddy called out to him - he said he would be right back - Surprise Surprise! He was up in his room - trying to get his undershirt off - so he could wear his basketball shirt without it to school!!!!!!
How funny - and Daddy was so mad that he just left him home because he was getting late for work, and Grandma was home. and so today he is home with his basketball shirt on and note - NO undershirt  ;)

1 year later...

This Memorial Day officially marked 1 year since we moved to CA.
Its been an interesting year - new schools, new jobs, new home and neighborhood....

I turned 40 - felt conscious of my age for the first time in my life :(  . I didn't feel this way when I turned 30. But I enjoyed the attention I got on my party. Being able to celebrate with my childhood friends was just so satisfying and relaxing. I really felt that life was good again - I was close by to people who knew me for ages....and that feels good. Its like the Cheers song - Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came...
Just remembering that makes me feel ancient !
We went for a hike the next day on Pleasanton Ridge - and the green hills looked beautiful. We also had a neighborhood wine club get together that evening -  perfect birthday weekend. :)

V turned 12 - and we had a great party. It was challenge getting the party started. He didn't get invited to many parties, and so we didn't have any ideas of where to go. Apparently there is a lot of difference in Elementary school and Middle school. I always went to a school where we never had lockers and Elementary school was the basic model for the entire school - all the way to High school. You always had a 'class' where teachers walked in and out of, but students stayed there. It kind of forced you to make friends with the people you were stuck with all day.  But with Middle school having classes all over campus, and not having the same set of people in many of them, makes it that much harder to make friends. And V has had his ups and downs this year, in part because of this.
So finally getting a small party together for his bday became a major success story - with 5 other kids and 'RocknJump'. Who knew trampolines make normal dodge ball exciting. Simply jumping had everyone so hyper! M loved it too. And he kept running and jumping into the foam pit - a few times he was stopped by the guard on duty, since the other kid hadn't come out yet! M is showing that he can be naughty and ignore instructions - I have to spend a little more time with that kid.
And during this time his dad had to go get the ice cream cake - which I didn't pre-order because I've seen them all look the same. So surprise surprise - his dad bought a white cake with pink icing!
Really! Really! are you kidding me !!!!
But he said it was the right size, and all the other cakes were either too big or too small.
So my 12 year old boy, blew his candles and enjoyed his strawberry ice cram cake... and I was happy that all his friends didn't even notice the fact that there was pink icing on it. whew! maybe they have grown out of it.
He got the Lego Mindstorms from us - to do over the summer - (by himself ) and  Gamestop gift cards from his friends.
Though it was V's bday, M got a pair of Woody and Buzz light up shoes! He simply loved them. We went to 3 stores to buy his size - but finally couldn't find the bigger size we wanted. He was so sad. So I ended up taking him to Target and getting his current size - which I know will not fit him in 3 months....but o well ...

And to round up - finally we also put our Star Wars license plate on our Honda Odyssey. yay! It took a year for that plate to arrive from the DMV, and V and I had thought we could openly express our love of Star Wars on our car!

May the Force be with you!
