After hearing 'I want a baby brother' for the umpteenth time, in exasperation one day, I told my 6 yr old that I tried to have a baby ever since he turned 4 - but it just didn't happen. The discussion ended - he seemed to realize it was not totally mommy's fault.
Recently, one of my neighbors had a baby. When her daughter asked my son if he had a younger brother or sister, he replied - "No, my mom tried when I was 4!"
