The Harry Potter Bug...

It has finally bitten my son. Thats all he wants to read. He is obsessed. His class teacher rightly thinks that those books are above a 7 year olds level - but he does not relent. He was Harry on Halloween, he dreams about Hogwartz being real and getting invited to it when he turns 11!

Its been quite an experience this year. " A series of unfortunate events" by Lemony Snicket was introduced to me for the first time. I didn't like it at all. The children in the book are tortured violently and escape horrible circumstances - I would choose Harry Potter any day, over that series. However living where I do - the HP series is considered a bigger evil :|

I am happy at the new found enthusiasm for reading. I am happy to see his reading skills improve - significantly. But then we have to draw a line. In our house that has been drawn at Book 5 - "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix". I have stopped that book from coming into the house till the end of the current school year. I want him to appreciate other simpler stories.

Kids and their fantasy worlds suck in everybody...
'Avatar - the last air bender' had become a family TV event - we all watched and discussed it. I even got my friend hooked on it with her son.
In our house the martial art stances and sequences are recreated constantly, alternating with the Harry Potter mania. So over sounds of the 'swishing' of magic wands and quidditch matches ( which are recreated using pencils!!!) I sometimes remember my childhood and the stuff I loved to play act...
... I wish we had Harry Potter too ;)
